When I started running, I weighed in at around 104kg. I used to smoke, social drink a little more than I should and didn’t have the best diets. I only went out to drink because I had nothing better to do and had no positive outlook on life itself. That’s not to say I didn’t have a good life, but something was missing.
After spending far too much time, sitting around and feeling down, I decided to sign up at the gym again. I had tried this numerous times before, but in the end, I always got bored with waiting around for equipment or just didn’t have the motivation to keep going.

After spending far too much time, sitting around and feeling down, I decided to sign up at the gym again. I had tried this numerous times before, but in the end, I always got bored with waiting around for equipment or just didn’t have the motivation to keep going.
One day, I was sitting on social media and saw an event for the Canberra Times Fun Run. At first, I looked at it and wondered if I should give it a go, but this time instead of breezing past, I decided that there was no backing out if I signed up then and there. My logic was that if I could get up to 5km on the treadmill, I would be fine. At the time, I didn’t consider the warm-ups or cooldowns, pacing or even my footwear.
The day came around, and I showed up in my brand new running gear, and when I picked up the race bib, I started to feel excited. There was such a buzz at the event, something that I had never experienced before. People were happy, there was a big crowd of supporters for all the people involved, and I was really looking forward to taking part.
Then the big moment came, and we were off, the start was good, but my inexperience and self-belief that I could push myself went into overdrive, and the self-doubt that I was in too deep began to creep in.
I went too fast and tried to keep up with others around me and burned out very quickly. It then became a mental battle with my mind and body to get to the finish. Once I had finished, I was amazed at what I had accomplished. The adrenaline of finishing was terrific; it was a monumental moment for what would come next in my life.
Still buzzing a week later, I decided to sign up for my next run, and with this, I wanted to know more about how I could improve. So listened to the advice of friends, other runners, and researched online.
Gradually, I improved significantly over the next year, reducing my weight, improving my health, and feeling happier than I had in years. My love for running had changed me, but I still thought I needed to know more. After a lot of consideration, I decided to take the plunge, leave my job and become a Recreational Running Coach and personal trainer.
I signed up for college and got back into studying, learning every aspect I could think of related to running, From the warm-ups, strength exercises, drills, types and methods of training, the preparation before events, and so much more. I learned that there was so much more that could be included in my training to improve my strength, cardiovascular capacity, and much more.
The whole time I was doing this, I put what I had learned into practice, noticing considerable improvement and greater enjoyment. With this, I was entering a whole range of different events and challenges to improve my knowledge and my experience.
I created “Running 4 Happiness Project” because I’m now at a stage in life where I feel the need to share what I have learned and help others get where they want to be with their running.
I do this by creating personalised one to one plans that are clear and significant to the goals you set, and it ensures you run efficiently, safely and are economical with your body. So whether it’s your first 5km, or even to prepare for an ultra marathon, I will be with you every step of the way, by working together we can achieve your objectives and goals.
